I figure the best way to be more confident with writing, is to practice it. So I have entered another competition....this time the prestigious NZ Sunday Star Times Short Story competition. Wish me luck! I have crafted a story about a skateboarder.
As an insecure writer I find it hard to know if what I write is any good...but on Friday I bit the bullet and entered my first ever competition. Part of History Week, I entered in the Hidden History competition with a 1400 short story, "The Loner". Just entering was a big step, and I am stoked that I have plucked up my courage to get some of my writing out into the real world.

Blatant copying from elsewhere, but this so sums it up!
I saw this on a facebook page that I am part of. It resonated with me today!
"Writing a book is an adventure. To begin with, it is a toy and an amusement; then it becomes a mistress, and then it becomes a master, and then a tyrant. The last phase is that just as you are about to be reconciled to your servitude, you kill the monster, and fling him out to the public." Winston Churchhill
Today I finally hit over 60,000 words on my Camp NaNoWriMo project, The Scoundrel and The Songstress. It was exciting to hit such a milestone after much blood, sweat, tears and coffee. NaNoWriMo have a few mottos, my favourite being "I like big wordcounts and I cannot lie", the premise being to give up prevaricating and just get the idea down in words. Later, you can edit at your leisure but that first draft is for you, to tell yourself the story, so just get on with it. Don't worry about perfection, just write! and so, I have. Proud moment here today.
This is the first day that my website has been up and running. I hope you managed to find your way around OK. I'm hoping to sort out the picture of the Monarch Butterfly, which distractedly, only appears on one page. Somehow I've managed to delete it from all the others. The image below was my inspiration for beginning a website. Resonate with you?
